How to check money owing on a car in NZ

Checking a vehicle for finance owing is an essential step before you buy. Luckily, it’s an easy and straightforward process, and it’s a part of our comprehensive vehicle background check.

Step 1

Visit and enter the plate number or VIN of the vehicle. You’ll get a basic report to make sure you are checking the correct vehicle and it’s not listed as stolen.

Step 2

Proceed to the report purchase. The report will be prepared straight away after the payment. Usually it appears on your screen in less than 30 seconds.

Step 3

The system will automatically search for registered security interests using the current plate number, the past plate numbers (if plates have been replaced by the owner), the VIN and the chassis number. If the search returns financing statements indicating outstanding debts, you’ll see a warning and further explanations.

If something about the report looks odd or is not quite clear, please feel free to contact us, and we’ll happily look into it for you.
